The PsyArt Foundation
The PsyArt Foundation promotes psychological studies of the arts. We specialize in literature, but we are interested in any of the arts and any psychology, including psychoanalysis. Currently, we support three activities:
- The PsyArt journal. This is an online journal, free to the countless readers who can access it on the Internet. It is peer-reviewed and abstracted in the PMLA and PsycInfo bibliographies. The journal publishes about twenty articles a year, and it has been in operation since mid-1997. You can access our journal here.
- The PSYART listserv. This is an online discussion forum, devoted to psychological discussions of the arts or of psychology. At present PSYART has about a eight hundred fifty subscribers from about forty-nine countries. You can subscribe to PSYART here.
- We help conduct the annual International Conference in Literature-and-Psychology. (The conference also accepts papers on film, music, and the visual arts.) Each year, we have about sixty papers and our participants have come from all over: Australia, Canada, China, Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Hungary, Iran, Israel, Italy, Kuwait, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, the U.K., and, of course, many from all over the U.S.A. You can find out about this year's conference in Pécs, Hungary, June 23-28 here.
- We have also published two books. Know Thyself: Delphi Seminars by Norman Holland and Murray Schwartz explains and demonstrates a richly psychological method of teaching literature, psychoanalysis, or anything else. You can learn more about it here. Norman Holland's Literature and the Brain shows how your brain, by functioning in a special way, turns stories, plays, movies, or poems into pleasure. You can learn more about it here.
